What is now the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was founded as a junior college in 1927 and began intercollegiate sports in 1930. Players on the inaugural football team nicknamed the team the Trojans. This moniker would be adopted by all other athletic programs that the school established and has stuck around almost a century later.
Little Rock has a costumed Trojan mascot named Maximus.
