Happy 25th birthday to The Low Major co-founder and Name-a-Day Calendar researcher Eli Powell!
Bellarmine University was founded as Bellarmine College in 1950 by Msgr. Alfred Horrigan, who immediately chose the knight as the school’s mascot himself. University sources claim that he chose the knight because he was fond of the Legend of King Arthur.
Bellarmine held a contest to name their knight mascot a few months before they moved up to Division I in 2020. Look at the list of finalists here and guess which one they went with.
