This is lo-fi electronica, wrapped in layers of piano and shimmering chimes. It’s Porter Robinson at his most elated without the towering drops, more akin to a Bee and Puppycat style appreciation of the world - soft pastel hues, quiet animation, coffee and tea in quiet cafes on rainy days.
There’s a second dimension, there, louder and a little more tense, a string tightly wound, ready to snap. It’s the moment before the gun fires in a race, the tense of a warrior before the sounding horn calls. It’s gorgeous, taut, and I wish there were more of it in this album.
I do appreciate ‘isolation’, which feels directly out of the Stardew Valley soundtrack. Outside of that, I think, if nothing else, I wish there was a little more substance to each of these songs. They’re well structured and have a good base to them, but thin out when you prod below the surface.
Rating: 7.9/10
Best Tracks: spatial; isolation; the flowers were beautiful that day
Worst Tracks: Stasis
