Album: the record (2023)
Artist: boygenius

The supergroup formed by indie luminaries Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacusin 2018 finally released their full-length debut, and I’ll be damned if it wasn’t worth the wait.
This is not a perfect album - while it’s pleasing that each artist retains their own distinct style, it also means that there remains a certain incoherence to the record - it feels a little bit, at times, like a collaborative album formed by taking pieces from each artist’s discography and slapping them together without much thought.
When it’s good, though, it’s unbelievable. There’s a reason all three of these artists have risen to the top of their field, and each of them are given a chance to shine in their own right on this album, showcasing both their individual talents and the ways in which they shine together, uplifting each other.
Rating: 8.3/10
Best Tracks: Emily I’m Sorry, Cool About It
Worst Tracks: Leonard Cohen, Revolution 0
