Album: Piece By Piece (2016)
Artist: Kelly Clarkson
Link:
At its best, this is an album that exemplifies the many talents that Kelly Clarkson possesses - strong vocals and pristine production that serve their purpose in reminding us why she’s outlasted so many other reality stars in this corner of the world.
Unfortunately, too often, it’s quite the contrary. This album, to me, reeks of someone past their best days trying to hold on - it’s Favre with the Vikings or Henderson with the Dodgers, someone doing their damndest to relive a time that can’t quite ever be replicated. Too often, the sentiments here ring a little hollow, feel a little underwhelming. It’s all a bit too plastic, and as much as she tries to offset this with a revitalized image, it doesn’t really click for me as someone who’s never been terribly into her work.
Rating: 6.2/10
Best Tracks: Tightrope
Worst Tracks: Run Run Run; Good Goes The Bye
