Welcome back to the Daily Spin, the series in which I review 365 albums during 2023. We’ve made it through the first quarter!
Each album will be given a rating on a scale from 0 to 10. You can look at the entire set here. Additionally, you can check out a list of my favorite song from each album right here.
If you want to suggest an album, good news! You can do so right here!
Album: Sainthood (2009)
Artist: Tegan and Sara

Somewhere between power pop, outright pop, and something almost punk-like, the Quin sisters settled in with Sainthood to provide a nicely orchestrated album about a whole bunch of things at once. It’s this willingness to go outside of the box that both floats and sinks the album - when it works, such as the plucky nature of ‘Alligator’, it’s a 10/10 record, but there are times on the record where it doesn’t quite come together and is left feeling a little like the album would have benefitted from a little more time in the oven.
I love that I can get a little lost in this album - I turned away to work on another project, and before I knew it, 20 minutes and half the tracklist had passed - but there are also a few moments where I find myself sitting and twiddling my fingers for the next track to get here.
When Tegan and Sara commit to one or the other, punk or pop, they’re at their best. Trying to stick their fingers in too many baskets at once is a valuable lesson all of us could stand to learn from.
