Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: graves (2022)
Artist: Purity Ring

Purity Ring were so integral to the development of my musical taste that I can still pinpoint the exact moment I heard ‘obedear’ for the first time, sitting in my dorm room - the immediate pause, the frantic tab over to Spotify, and the realization that I was witnessing magic.
With their 2022 EP graves, some of that magic comes back. Purity Ring has always been about the odd - if the production, half-trap beats, half soaring indie production, and the chopped and screwed vocals sailing on high clamoring about climbing into ribcages and drowning and death didn’t sell you on the idea that maybe this group is a little funky, then I don’t know what to tell you. Over the last ten years, though, the production has veered towards more standard pop-electronica - a little less PC Music, a little more Porter Robinson or CHVRCHES. Don’t get me wrong - I love that - but the main draw for this group is the strangeness.
Thankfully, this return to form seems to be indicative of future endeavors, if their recent single is any indication. It’s nice to see someone pick the ol football up and huck it seventy yards after spending a couple years taking it easy.
