Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Sugar & Spice (2018)
Artist: Hatchie

When I reviewed Hatchie a couple of years ago, my big takeaway was her similarities to Taylor Swift, as a sort of Great Value version of one of the world’s most popular artists.
Now, I’d argue she’s the Kirkland brand - superior yet underrated.
Over five short songs, I love what Hatchie - Harriette Pilbeam - does, crafting worlds out of a dreamy shoegaze sound, adding pop flair as necessary to build out these gorgeous soundscapes, heady with the weight of feeling.
The clear star of the record is opener ‘Sure’, everything and more you could ask out of a dreamy pop starlet, shimmery lyrics leaving you dazed from the sweetness of it all, a little keyboard chime to accompany the guitar as the song fills itself through. It’s gorgeous and weightless, effortlessly delightful.
Not to shame the rest of the tracks - of the five, I’m not sure there’s one I truly dislike. Thoroughly enjoyable all the way down, no matter how you shake it.
