Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Cowboy Gangster Politician (2022)
Artist: Goldie Boutilier
Link:
Goldie Boutilier previously put out electro-pop work as Goldilox - the only time I’d heard of her before now, though I hadn’t really cared much for the sound and as such didn’t really make any effort to revisit her work.
Though I wouldn’t necessarily say Cowboy Gangster Poltician drastically changes that, it’s a nice touch to see someone succeed at proving their multifaceted talents - sure, it’s not gonna bring the house down, but this is good stuff, made all the better because it’s a complete tonal shift. The synthesizers have been traded for twangy guitars, gorgeous builds, and the sort of choruses that will rattle around your head for a good little while - so even if it’s not your favorite stuff, there’s credit to be given for a lasting impression.
