Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: something about a fig tree (2021)
Artist: Roseville
Link:
Roseville create very pleasant shoegazey material that knows what it needs to accomplish and gets… well, most of the way there, at least.
I really enjoy those moments where the album is allowed to ride itself out a bit - it’s a rare but strong touch that I don’t see nearly often enough in today’s music industry, where chasing the next TikTok clip is more important than the longevity and fullness of a sound.
Not to say this record is perfect - as with their first album, Roseville struggle with pacing and keeping their work interesting. It’s not that surprising to see it crop up again, especially considering this work is older - and that neither emo nor shoegaze are particularly good at facilitating timely tracks.
Still bangs, not too mad about it!
