Really nice blend of melancholy and upbeat energy here, one that allows the punchy melodies to float above and do their work uninterrupted.
I’d never heard of these guys prior to a suggestion from a friend that saw us review two of their projects. Both are a really delightful sort of electric rock, and this continues that form - it’s a nice case of a group knowing what they do well and utilizing those strengths accordingly.
This is a little softer than their previous efforts - and though I’m still somewhat torn on whether I really like that or not, credit where it’s due for being willing to push oneself like that. It’s very soft, Porter Robinson, cuddly world - and that’s fine, but the overwhelming sameness starts to grate.
