Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Brat (2024)
Artist: Charli XCX

This is possibly the worst album to have spawned a cultural Moment in some time.
There are glimpses of greatness here - the same production that has turned her into a star over the better part of a decade works in Charli’s favor immensely here, club bangers calling forth the best of eras bygone and yet to come often in the same movement.
And yet, under it all, the lingering falsity overwhelms. This is an album claiming to be the ultimate in don’t care counterculture, but the title rings truer than expected - too often, especially in the months since release, this has become the anthemic record for “don’t hold me responsible for my actions” energy. The music is rarely ever good enough to push past the shortcomings evident throughout - one-note music trying to act like it’s a chorus across the skies.
I’m left underwhelmed.
