Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Cloquet (2018)

This is a weird one - not because the music is particularly unusual, but I fear I Mandela-effected myself into thinking this album had a particularly good song on it that, as far as I can tell, straight out does not exist at all. (Editor: David again! Realized I was thinking about Blonder’s $5, another album with a neon yellowgreen cover.)
If you’ll excuse my idiocy, I’ll make the room to tell you about the album that actually exists here - strong indie dance/nu disco tinged with the sort of pop sentimentality and hip-hop beats that have the hallmarks of greatness studded within them.
For the all the flashes of brightness, though, this is an album unfortunately working out to be lesser than the sum of its parts. The songs rarely ever trend into being actually bad, but only ‘Right There’ ever really hits that stride of excellence, and most of the rest of the record is content to piddle along - there aren’t enough peaks nor valleys to make most of this record memorable, and even as I’m sitting here actively listening to it, I find myself drifting.
