Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Twin Fantasy (2018)
Artist: Car Seat Headrest

I’ve always liked Car Seat Headrest - it’s right in that nook between power pop, emo, and indie music that has the potential to absolutely floor you with unforeseen depth and strength. 2018’s Twin Fantasy is no different than anything else Will Toledo has done in that regard - though it’s cluttered, oft oscillating between spoken word, guitar riffs, and vocal chops, all woven through songs that range from ninety seconds to well over fifteen minutes.
It’s dizzying, really. Sometimes I think it’s an incredible effect - other times, it’s overstimulating to the point that I have to put the headphones down and come back to the album. Twin Fantasy lives its life at one hundred percent - and though that may not always take the same form as it would with other productions, it’s no less notable in this scenario.
I can’t pretend that this album always does it for me - I find the fact that a ten song album is seventy minutes long really frustrating. It works for This Will Destroy You because the EPs are shorter in length and each song is allowed a moment - but two tracks comprising nearly thirty minutes is a really tough sell, especially when they’re bracketed by the type of noise that I wouldn’t really call consistent.
Ah well. It’s still a hell of a story to tell, and that in and of itself makes the missteps endearing and worthwhile.
