Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: What’s Wrong With New York? (2024)
Artist: The Dare

Though definitely not a new phenomenon by any stretch of the imagination, it does feel like the LCD Soundsystem-like imitation has reached market saturation - and where the Dare struggle with last year’s What’s Wrong With New York? is that it’s a sound better done by so many other acts - let alone the originals - that there’s not really much to differentiate from a positive sense.
Don’t get me wrong - there are some really genuinely enjoyable moments throughout the EP - ‘All Night’ and ‘You’re Invited’ is actually a really stellar one-two combo meal, but the rest just feels pale in relation to anything else. Songs like ‘Girls’ don’t really help all that much - that’s just rough to listen to no matter how you split it.
A rare and unfortunate case of the sum being less than their parts. Too bad, really.
