Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Caer (2018)
Artist: Twin Shadow

Caer is one of those albums where one song is so far above the rest that it dims the lights in comparison.
Four albums in, it feels as though Twin Shadow is seeking an identity for his sound still, with inconclusive and aimless tracks that rarely hit the peaks that his best work can touch. There are developments towards a really strong indie pop sound here, but outside of ‘Saturdays’, it rarely actually gets to that high peak - and in the moments where it does, it kinda feels like HAIM is driving that sound.
Don’t get me wrong - I feel as though I’m being overly harsh. This album strikes me as - unfortunately - heavy on the unrealized gains. It’s like watching Miguel Sano play - sure, he’ll get you on your feet with one of those home runs that makes you realize there’s a very good reason you never made it out of Coach Pitch beyond needing glasses, but often it’s just kinda talk and talk and talk with little to back it up.
In those few brilliant moments, Twin Shadow’s work shines - there’s a really lovely quality to the guitars here, pushing beats that sizzle with clarity and finesse. It’s most visible on ‘Saturday’, as mentioned, but also really strong on ‘When You’re Wrong’ and ‘Sympathy’ - all of which are electro-pop songs that dazzle the ears, the first of which genuinely as one of my favorite songs of the century.
