Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Songs of Her’s (2017)
Artist: Her’s

Liverpudlian duo Her’s remains one of music’s big ‘what-if’ stories, if you ask me. While touring in support of their second full-length release, they were killed by a drunk driver in Arizona in March 2019 - truncating their career short at just four years. Both members of the band and their tour manager died in the crash, leaving a legacy of two albums, many singles, and myriad fans.
Today, we’re looking at their first full-length release, 2017’s Songs of Her’s, a nine-track compilation that catapulted the band into the public eye. Led by standout single ‘What Once Was’ - admittedly my path into finding the group, this album is a super pleasing blend of surf rock, British indie, and that shoegaze Californian sound that prevailed in so much music in the late 2010s.
Her’s were a chameleon of a band, and it’s never more clear on this album. Over nine tracks, you get about five different subgenres, and yet the duo made it work on each track with finesse and aplomb. My biggest complaint is admittedly the lack of cohesion through the album, but that’s a pretty minor gripe in the face of the success they had putting this together. Deeply impressive.
