Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: hawaiii (2013)
Artist: Said The Whale

Not much to this one, honestly. Ideal background music, for sure, but little else to make this worth a longer look - which is too bad, because there are glimpses of really lovely music through all the ceaseless beating.
After an EP that had many thinking Said The Whale were on a rather lackluster track, it’s neat to see one that pushes the envelope forward a little bit - but I do find myself wishing that there were more here. In trading the guitars for vocals at the front, hawaiii loses a lot of its punch and that vacuous space isn’t filled at all.
It’s never truly offensive in any sense - but it never does anything to push the envelope in the slightest, either, and that might be worse than anything else.
