Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: Nighttiming (2013)
Artist: Coconut Records

There’s really not too much to say about this album, honestly. Most of it’s pretty bland pop music, inoffensive and unspectacular. A couple of the tracks are head-and-shoulders above the rest - namely ‘Nighttiming’, for which I admittedly have to mention this remix that turned me on to Coconut Records as a concept. ‘It’s Not You It’s Me’ and ‘West Coast’ both shine in their own right, but the clear standout is ‘Nighttiming’ - nothing else holds that same infectious energy.
More notably, this is the alias of actor Jason Schwartzmann - part of the Coppola family, he’s starred in movies like Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (as the Spot, which is so cool), and a whole bunch of Wes Anderson films, which is also really cool! Not really all that relevant to the music itself, but it’s wild that someone can make a solid 7/10 album as a secondary career. Brother, I’m not sure I could do that as a primary career!
Nighttiming is, in the end, not particularly exciting, but those moments where the joy leaks through a little bit shine enough to give the album a little glimmer. It’s enjoyable enough and easy on the ears, not too much an imposition in any situation.
