Welcome back to the Daily Spin. For the uninitiated, this is the series in which I review an album every day of 2025.
As was the case two years ago, my favorite song from each album can be found at the playlist linked here.
Album: THE NIGHTDAY (2014)
Artist: ZHU

I have to give ZHU a lot of credit - this is not an EP I figured I would be spending a great deal of time with ten, eleven years down the line. Serves me right!
There’s a lack of timelessness here that shines through - despite the argument that this could be future bass, it feels very retrograde in nature - an EP using modern sound and past song construction.
Of course, that’s saying nothing about the good here, of which there is plenty - say what you will about this sort of slow creeping electronica, but ‘Faded’ is one of my favorite songs put out in the 2010s. There’s a sort of glimmer here that makes even the dullest songs enticing - though it cannot paste over every issue, there’s still plenty to enjoy.
