I really don’t have a lot to say about this album - not for lack of enjoyment, but it’s effortless in all the best ways, simple on the surface but clearly complex the further down you go. It was used by Jon Bois in a docuseries, and it’s not hard to see why - it’s that same glittery jazz and funk that seeps into so much of his work.
Sometimes it feels like the loading music to a Wii or Switch game in the best way, the type of backing sound that’s Animal Crossing tunes orchestrated by a full ensemble - and I mean that entirely in an entirely complementary sense.
Sometimes it runs a little long, and like most albums like this, it eventually wears thin over time - a lot of the instrumentation isn’t quite pared down enough for me to be able to work to it, best fitting to a soundtrack, but it’s still very strong work.
