Album: Time Will Wait For No One (2023)
Artist: Local Natives

I was talking with a friend a few months ago about Local Natives, and the conclusion we reached is that the Los Angeles-based indie group makes music that is, at heart, inherently remixable.
I say that because, at times, I look at their catalogue and feel as though the music, without the input of others, feels lacking - tracks like ‘I Saw You Close Your Eyes’ and ‘Cards & Quarters’ stand out as counter to that thesis, but the vast majority of their work feels as though it doesn’t really find its footing unless someone else is manipulating it.
In some sense, Time Will Wait For No One feels the same way - it’s that chamber pop/indie that the band has gotten down to a science, much closer to the sound of Gorilla Manor - a good thing, if you ask me. The elements are a little more electronic, the tunes a little more driven, but it follows similar patterns, to excellent effect.
My biggest gripe is that, as I allude to, the album feels like it never really reaches its full potential. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s missing here, but a no point do I feel like any of the songs off this record get to that blissful ecstasy.
