Welcome back to the Daily Spin, the series in which I review 365 albums during 2023.
Each album will be given a rating on a scale from 0 to 10. You can look at the entire set here. Additionally, you can check out a list of my favorite song from each album right here.

I didn’t realize it until much later on, but The Paper Kites were the genesis for a lot of my interest in Americana, folk, and indie stylings, particularly the combination of the latter two genres. You get a crush on one person and suddenly you’ve got a new favorite band for most of your freshman year of college.
It’s not necessarily that anything particularly massive is accomplished with this EP, but it never really missteps badly. It’s never shy about being exactly what it is, no more, no less. It’s classically solid indie folk, smooth guitar hooks and production decidedly of the early tens in a deeply complimentary sense.
While I think that other works of theirs tend to be more consistent across the board, ‘Bloom’ remains one of my favorite songs ever made, and it’s hard to look down on an album that gave me that.
Rating: 8.1/10
Best Tracks: Bloom; Halcyon
Worst Tracks: The Mortal Boy King
