In the best way possible, this reminds me a bit of a cross between Catfish and the Bottlemen and like, Mumford and Sons. It’s that same vaguely folksy sound that Mumford espouses, tinged with a bit of the rock elements that the Bottlemen have rolled with - take ‘Lion’, for example, which reminds me very heavily of Catfish’s song ‘Glasgow’.
In any case, I digress - this is a delightful return to form after a couple albums that were very much not my cup of tea - and though it doesn’t all hit, with a bit of sameness that I wish were a little less present, as a lot of this all winds up feeling like the same song at heart, this has highs that are appropriately high.
I really love that the album ambles along at its own pace, giving it a significantly more authentic feel about it. Though there’s not quite enough innovation for my tastes, the album is decidedly soothing, and there’s something to be said for that.
