Album: The Age of Pleasure (2023)
Artist: Janelle Monae

This is pretty simple indie folksy music, the sort that’ll idly play in my mind when everything fades away for a bit, but I do feel somewhat at a loss for how to review this in aggregate given its length (just 13 minutes).
One of these songs has nearly 300 million streams, so clearly there’s mainstream appeal - and to my untrained eye, I feel like that might be in the way that the music is simple enough to draw interest or, say, feature as backing loops on TikToks, but it’s just not really to my liking. It’s a little too pared down, a little too far from fleshed out, and not quite what I look for.
Rating: 5.2/10
Best Tracks: mother tongue
Worst Tracks: recently.
