For an album that’s ostensibly a parody, this isn’t nearly bad enough. I found myself actually kind of enjoying some of these songs. It’s cliche to the bones, full of tired lyrics and metaphors long overdone, but the music itself isn’t half-bad.
It’s the sort of production that has me wondering what might be or what could have been if this wasn’t primarily a comedic endeavor - but that’s a question for another day, I fear, because this album is decidedly tongue-in-cheek, enough so that it does dampen the appeal a bit to me.
The few songs that sit on the precipice of seriousness are the ones that sparkle as diamonds in the rough, because it’s a glimpse of what this album can be at the peak. It’s just a long road between those songs.
