This is just fun punk music - and while this isn’t always in my wheelhouse, this is exactly the sort of album that I love to throw on when I’m a little bit this side of melancholy. It’s albums like this that move a little above emo when I’m in a certain emotional state because there’s a lot more energy to them - as much as I love, say, a Hot Mulligan record, it also feels a bit like there’s less drive.
There’s good variety here, the right sort of balance between lyricism and instrumentation that lends well to a genre that requires a specifically deft hand. It’s not without its missteps - but for the most part, I find myself generally liking the direction each song takes. It’s evident that there’s a good amount of thought put into this, and unlike the Bad Omens album we reviewed back in January, this one dodges, for the most part, the accusations of Just Being Dudes Screaming.
