Album: Currents (2015)
Artist: Tame Impala

Currents is rich and beautiful, deep under shallow first glances. It is a testament to the talent in Kevin Parker’s hands as a composer, guitarist, bassist, and producer - taking pop songs, adding the electronic and rock influences, and pulling it all together with a neatly-presented bow.
The album washes over you as you listen, the smooth hooks and patterned drums of RnB-style influences pairing ever so beautifully with the synthetic melodies that Parker builds, weaving all manner of genres into one single beautiful package.
The most popular song is ‘The Less I Know The Better’ and yet I’m not sure that cracks my top 5 off Currents - this album is wicked deep, with the sleek bounces of ‘The Moment’ and the sawing emotion of ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’ forming one hell of a one-two punch. No Tungsten o’Doyle here, though - this album stays in the win column all the way through. It’s one of the finest efforts any artist has ever made, and it is one of the few albums that truly earns its 10 rating from me.
