Borne of the struggle to free her music from a label that had been gradually revealed as less-than-competent, FREE IH is twenty-three minutes of pretty hefty rock that establishes what could become of her second full-length release - but unfortunately, this very much falls into the Not For Me camp.
It’s too confounded with itself, intertwining stories and sounds with a fervor that seems designed to work you into a frenzy of appreciation, but comes across jumbled and inconsistent. It feels like it was slapdash, thrown together in a weekend - and whether the reasons behind it are all sorts of valid or not, it doesn’t necessarily make it any better in terms of the music.
Pitchfork somehow wrote like three thousand words on this. Could not manage that with a gun to my temple.
Rating: 5.6/10
Best Tracks: reasons 2 live; frequent letdown
Worst Tracks: free ppls; K - HOT AM 818; will i get cancelled
