I can see the joy in albums like this, but it does not exist for me.
When I listen to music, I need it to have defined fringes - there’s something to be said for having a shape. This may seem bold, given my acclaim for the recent Catfish album, among others, but to me, the difference between those and this one is that The Ride had a definable form to it under the noise, while this just strikes like you let fifteen five years olds have a drum kit apiece.
In the rare breaks from the noise, I’m treated to the sound that draws people into this band - the homages to 60s and 80s girl groups and power pop, including the very Bois-like ‘Super Triangle’, but the rest just kinda drags. From the opening salvo with ‘TORNADO’, you’re hit with the sonic equivalent of an air raid, and it doesn’t let up. That’s not appealing to me.
Rating: 6.6/10
Best Tracks: Super Triangle
Worst Tracks: T.O.R.N.A.D.O; Voice Yr Choice; Lazy Poltergeist
