Album: color theory (2020)
Artist: Soccer Mommy

Though it’s simple, color theory strikes true at the heart of something many of us are intimately familiar with - the deeply unpleasant realization we all have sometime in our 20s, that moment where it becomes obvious, almost with paralyzing clarity, that the rest of your life might just be this way.
Though I think there’s a little something missing from this album - often, it feels a little too simple, a little too pared-down and one-note to truly convey the depth of emotion that these lyrics profess to feel - I’m left astounded by it, on the whole. For an album that I never really gave all that much time to, for a variety of reasons, I’m amazed at how well it hits all the right buttons for me.
Underneath the surf rock guitars that pound steady on these sandy beaches, there’s a lot of sentiment that hits really true, and any album that can so clearly put forward those sorts of feelings will automatically be received well for me.
