Album: DROWN THE TRAITOR WITHIN (2019)
Artist: Lorn
Link:
As with the previous year’s REMNANT, Lorn took his glitch-hop wonk to new heights with 2019’s DROWN THE TRAITOR WITHIN, and that’s the basic takeaway from each of his works, I feel. Each is a new elevation, another step forward.
So much of Lorn’s music is this snarling sort of work, a tiger set free from a cage, bounding from point to point with all the pent-up energy that it can muster. It’s dark, brutal, and unfriendly (if the title didn’t make that clear), music that punches its way through every preconceived notion of the dance between bass and treble.
It’s a stark and violent sort of beauty that drips from each and every sound throughout this record that really draws me to it - because sure, it may not be pretty, but it’s always enjoyable to dance a little with the darker edge of things.
Rating: 8.8/10
Best Tracks: THROUGH THE FIRE; PERFEKT DARK; 2 LATE
Worst Tracks: INERTIA
