Album: Stories from the Sky (2020)
Artist: Sid Acharya

Within his artist profile on Spotify, Sid Acharya notes that his music has been used by teams and groups the world over, including NASA - and though that may seem a rather grand claim to ascertain, it’s one that immediately becomes evidently clear and accurate.
Through his sweeping string arrangements, you get this very ethereal sensation, one that carries you, sparse and wide sound that in headphones moves from side to side, these chasms of empty nothingness with tracks of noise passing through, just long enough to disperse the silence before fading away.
It reminds me quite strongly of Laurence Chapman’s Heaven’s Vault, actually, which makes a whole lot of sense given that the bulk of that game’s score is utilized through a variant on space travel - you ride through a glimmering cosmos on gilded wings, and so much of this music gives you that same sense - of flight, of exploration, of the stars and the universe and everything contained in this vast abyss.
This album is the sort of music that, delightfully, gives you the perspective of the universe we exist within, and our utterly inconsequential place within it. Depending on how you look at it, that could be really stressful and minimizing, but for me, it’s soothing, a balm to an anxious soul.
