I was honestly tempted to just copy-and-paste my review for Hot Wax from a couple days ago, because it’s effectively the same sentiments throughout.
The major issue I take with a lot of this sort of ambient music is that it feels like it’s building to something that never exists within the songs itself - and though there are brief glimmering moments of triumph and exaltation throughout, it’s never consistent enough for this to feel any different than, say, the waiting music at an amusement park.
It’s not bad, but there’s got to be more to it.
