Welcome back to the Daily Spin, the series in which I review 365 albums during 2023.
Each album will be given a rating on a scale from 0 to 10. You can look at the entire set here. Additionally, you can check out a list of my favorite song from each album right here.
Album: Party Favors (2020)
Artist: Sir Chloe

The basic framework here is appealing music - vaguely dreamy surf rock, somewhere between The Neighbourhood with an edge and Catfish and the Bottlemen if they jumped on the reverb dial - and yet, as I listen to this album, I’m finding myself more or less uncaring about it.
Unfortunately, though the music is enjoyable, there’s roughly one consistent thread through the entire album, and that’s the sound that Sir Chloe applies here - which means that for about half and hour, you’re treated to nine minor variations of the same basic template, none of which are enough to truly distinguish in any major sense.
It’s one of those cases where I’m truly grateful the album didn’t try to go longer, because if it had, I’m unsure that I would have been able to stand it, and the rating would have suffered brutally for it. Instead, I’m left feeling vaguely empty - because I want to appreciate this more, but it remains largely unmemorable with the few sticking points largely being identical over every track.
