Album: everything is alive (2023)
Artist: Slowdive

It’s moments like this album where you get glimpses of what a titanic force in the world of shoegaze Slowdive is, with everything is alive showcasing as a phenomenal introduction to the genre for newcomers and a breath of fresh air to people accustomed and familiar with the language spoken therein.
The back half of the album is particularly strong, moving between subgenres with the agility of a gazelle - and, despite the pacing of the album in general, it never feels stale or droning, instead holding a surprising freshness throughout, glowing with sounds both new and old.
The front half of the record, on the other hand, lacks a little bit, taking a moment to get going and accelerate off the line - once it finds that strength, it’s more than fine, but up until that point, I’m left wanting about as much as anything else, and it’s arguably the album’s biggest detractor.
